A major cold front with record-breaking temperatures this early in the winter recently delivered perfect 4-6 ft surf to South Beach while most breaks to the north were 2 ft. What was unusual about this one was that the typical ingredient of strong NW winds at 20+ kts for 8+ hours never materialized but the waves somehow did. Winds were mainly W throughout Central Florida and WNW in North Florida up to North Carolina. West winds = good swell in Sobe?? I don’t think it was the west winds that blew in the swell but honestly, no one really knows exactly what produces the goods on these kind of events. Whatever it is, I like it.

December 14th, 2010
NW-N swell 5-8 feet at 9-10 seconds
NW-WNW winds at 15-25 kts
Summary – Fun all day. Really cold out. Baron Knowlton, Pete Mendia, Blake Burns, Greg Badgley, Bryan Hewitson, Jensen Callaway and a bunch of others were out ripping.
